Why was Willingdon Crescent Built
Jamnagar city was later developed by Sahib Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji in the 1920s. During this time, Jamnagar enjoyed being a territory of the Princely state of Nawanagar.Willingdon Crescent, built across the road from Darbar Gadh was an attempt of Jam Ranjitsinhji to get rid of the congested and overcrowded slum of Nawanager at that time. He wanted a modern building to replace the packed surroundings - just like he had seen in Europe.
The statue of Jam Digvijaysinhji still adorns the lively building of Willingdon Crescent. Willingdon Crescent is an old building giving the message of moving on... of modernization. The entire building looks big and magnificent just like the dreams of its founder!
