Picnic Spots Near Jamnagar
Jamnagar has innumerable tourist destinations to leave you gaping and mesmerized literally. And if you are a Jamnagar resident, you have enough time and scope to visit those often. But how can we forget the many picnic spots that the city has? There are so many picnic spots in the city that shaking off the boredom and langour at the end of a busy week is no big deal in Jamnagar. Ranjitsagar Dam for instance has become one of the most visited picnic spots near the city. Jamnagar region in other words does have its fair share of places where you and your family can enjoy a wonderful day out.
Vijarkhi Dam, Sasoi Dam and Sinhan Dam, also feeding water to the city are wonderful spots for picnics. The water body attracts migratory birds and in winter, these are the ideal picnic spots close to the city. The Vijarkhi Dam is located at a distance of about 19 Kilometers from the Jamnagar Railway Station. The Sasoi Dam is located on the Jamanagar-Dwarka Road, Hemnar, at a distance of about 24 Kilometers from the Jamnagar Rail station. Depending upon where you are staying, you can either walk to the spot or take a cab, auto or even avail the rail route.
Winter is the best time for an all day picnic and summer is when you have an evening of fun by the seashore or along the dams and inland lakes in and around Jamnagar or even at places out of the city but nearby.
Jogger’s Park
The Jogger’s Park in the city is a favorite place for an evening’s fun and even a full day picnic. Visited by families and school children by the busloads this is a wonderful spot right in the middle of the city next to the Palace Grounds. You can reach it by cab or by auto. Ranjit Sagar Dam is 12-15 Kilometers from the city. It is to the South-east, lies along Jamnagar-Samana Road, in vicinity to Dadiya Village and it takes 30 minutes to reach the spot by bus. Built by Maharaja Shri Ranjitsinhji to serve as a source of water supply for the city, the Ranjitsagar Dam is also a popular picnic place for people from Jamnagar area. Khijadia Bird Sanctuary
Khijadia Bird Sanctuary is only 18 km north of Jamnagar City. You can travel by road and at the most it takes 30 minutes to reach the gates from where you'll have to walk since vehicles are not allowed inside. Spread over 6 square kilometers, it is home to over 300 species of birds in addition to flora and fauna. What makes it attractive as a picnic spot is that visitors can choose to have fun next to fresh water bodies inland or by the seashore along the coast. You would have to take all provisions including water since there are no facilities inside the Sanctuary. About 30 km from Jamnagar is the vast Marine National Park and you could plan a day’s outing to Pirotan Island. Your kids enjoy the unique environment, get to know marine and aquatic flora and fauna, learn about nature and enjoy a wonderful boat ride back and forth. The area from Jodiya up North to Okha along the coast is a designated area but the Marine National Park covers only 110 square kilometers between the two in Jamnagar District. Pirotan Island and Narara are the islands people usually visit to get a first hand experience of marine aquatic life and the thousands of birds to be found in their natural habitat. You need to obtain permission from the authorities, arrange a boat from Bedi or Nava Port in Jamnagar and schedule the visit at least an hour before high tide. The boatman you hire is the best person to guide you about departure and return times since high tide varies with the moon. It takes an hour by boat to reach Pirotan island.Rozi and Bedi Ports
