Jamnagar is located in Saurashtra region of Western Gujarat. Jamnagar District is famous for its brass products, (bandhani) tie and dye fabric, and handicrafts. It is also the world’s largest oil refinery of Reliance Petrochemicals. Jamnagar has India’s first Marine National Park and the famous Dwarkadhish temple which was built in the 16th century. The main focus of economy here are on the Brass Parts, Petroleum and Petrochemicals, Salt and Port related businesses.

Jamnagar district caters to over 70% of India’s brass parts requirements and there are over 4,500 units involved in their production. It is the major supplier to the electric and electronic factories located in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Around INR 300 crore of brass parts are manufactured by industries in this region of Gujarat.

Jamnagar is considered one of the main inventor and leading producer of Bandhni or tie and dye fabric, the yearly production of which accounts to about 250 crores. A few other major industries include engineering and Machinery, plastic and oil mills. Huge refineries of Reliance Industries and a smaller one of Essar Oil are also present here. Moreover Gujarat Fertilizers Corporation (GSFC), chemical fertilizer complex and a chemical plant of Tata chemicals in based in this district as well.

The district has huge Bauxite reserves, hence a few industries which are mineral based like calcite, Amery and abrasive industries are well developed in Jamnagar.

Jamnagar has a coastline of approximately 350 Kilometres, there are numerous salt production units in the district. The salt is exported to various countries like Vietnam, Japan, China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

Coming to the Agriculture sector of this region, the major fruits in the district are Sapodilla, Mango, Papaya, and Coconut. Papaya contributes to about 72% of the total fruit production. Jamnagar is the third largest producer of garlic with production of 52920 Million tonnes contributing 24% of total production in Gujarat state.

Not only this but the district is the 3rd largest contributor of groundnut in the state and 2nd largest producer of oil seeds.

In the IT Sector Jamnagar is not fully active. It does not have much BPOs. One prominent one is the S.K. International.

The Bedi port is used for handling agricultural produce and the salt industry is well developed in the region along with the presence of SEZs (Special Economic Zones) which is shared by Reliance Refinery and Essary Refinery.

These industries provide employment to the local people and also attract talent from outside of the district too. This leads to increase in GDP of the people in that area. The government of Gujarat supports the people of the state in expanding their industries. The government has recently relaxed rules relating to banking policies so that the small scale industries which are changing their technology can grow fast with sufficient financial help from the banking sector.
